ILOILO CITY—For former senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, Vice President Leni Robredo has both the intellect and the heart among the presidential candidates.
“Klaro sa akon ang tawo nga ging saligan ko kay ara sa iya ang kwalipakasyon—indi lang kwalipikasyon sa utok pero ang kwalipikasyon man asta sa tagipusu-on (It’s clear that the person I have my full trust has all the qualification—not only intellectually qualified, but also qualified in terms of the heart,” Roxas recalled when he chose Robredo as his running-mate for his failed presidential bid.
Roxas formally endorsed Robredo during a campaign rally for local candidates in Roxas City, the capital of Capiz province which was named after his grandfather, former president Manuel A. Roxas.
Capiz is where Mar Roxas once served as congressman and where he kicked off his 2016 presidential campaign with Robredo under the Liberal Party (LP).
Speaking in Hiligaynon language, Roxas urged the people of Capiz to support Robredo the same way they supported her in 2016 and the same way the people of Bicol supported his presidential run.
Capiz and the rest of Panay Island are still considered a bailiwick of Robredo.
The vice president and her running-mate Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan were in Capiz last February 15 for a campaign sortie.
