'Go lights out!' Palace urges Filipinos to join Earth Hour 2022
Malacañang encouraged Filipinos to participate in this year's Earth Hour, an annual global movement that aims to raise awareness to protect nature and save our home planet.

"Let us switch off all non-essential lights tonight 8:30 p.m. as a show of solidarity and active involvement in shaping our future," Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement on Saturday, March 26.
Andanar said the celebration of Earth Hour in the Philippines is a reminder that climate change and global warming are "real issues" that we need to pay more attention to.
"The Philippines is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change and this year's Earth Hour is a good reminder that climate change and global warming are real issues that we need to pay more attention to and require urgent action," he noted.
Earth Hour is a global environmental movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that started as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney, Australia in 2007.
"Earth Hour has gone far beyond the symbolic action of switching off—it has become a catalyst for positive environmental impact, driving major legislative changes by harnessing the power of the people and collective action," the Earth Hour website stated.
