Rain showers to persist in southern Mindanao due to ITCZ; hot, humid in the rest of PH

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Davao Region and Soccsksargen in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, March 25.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the ITCZ is a line where winds coming from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, forming clouds and rains.

PAGASA advised those in Davao Region and Soccsksargen to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Estareja said the easterlies, or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will bring warm weather and isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

In its extended weather outlook for key areas from March 26 to 29, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 34-35 degrees Celsius (â„ƒ) in Metro Manila, 33-34â„ƒ in Tuguegarao City, 25-26â„ƒ in Baguio City, 31-32â„ƒ in Tagaytay City, 32-33â„ƒ in Puerto Princesa City, 31-32â„ƒ in Metro Cebu, 32-33â„ƒ in Metro Davao, and 33-34â„ƒ in Zamboanga City.

Estareja added that tropical cyclone occurrence is less likely until the end of March but a low pressure area may form along the ITCZ in the next few days.

He said the LPA may affect Mindanao and some parts of Palawan and Visayas.
