No let-up in anti-crime efforts as local campaign period starts -- NCRPO
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) assured the public Friday, March 25, that their anti-criminality campaign will not be set aside even as they prioritize securing the local campaign period.

Lt. Col. Jenny Tecson, NCRPO spokesperson, said that more than 4,000 cops were deployed by the Manila Police District (MPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Eastern Police District (EPD), and Southern Police District (SPD) during the start of the campaign period for the local bets on Friday.
“Pero hindi lang kami nakafocus sa campaign period. Nakafocus din kami sa anti-criminality operations at hindi natin pababayaan ito (But we are not only focused in the campaign period. We are also focused in anti-criminality operations and there will be no let-up for this),” he said during the Laging Honda press briefing.
Tecson said lawless elements may take advantage of the campaign season to carry out their sinister plans especially during major sorties where throng of supporters troop to campaign venues.
Among the challenges observed during the first day of the campaign period for the local bets was traffic congestion.
“May mga lugar na hindi maitatanggi talagang nagkaroon ng traffic congestion. Handa naman ang local police para magmando ng traffic management and control. Iyong iba naman for perimeter security to check kung may nakapasok na mga masamang loob. Ang tendency kasi kapag siksikan ay may opportunities for snatching o pandurukot (There are certain areas that had traffic congestion. Still, our local police were ready to man the traffic. Others were assigned for perimeter security to check if there were lawless elements in the crowd. The tendency when people are overcrowding is that there are opportunities for snatching),” Tecson said.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) previously said that they have not monitored any credible threat in the days leading to the May 9 elections.
Among the areas being monitored by the PNP are Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos City) or Region 12, and Eastern Visayas (Region 8) since there is a monitored presence of private armed groups and communist rebels in these areas.
