Palace asks public to remain vigilant as local election campaigns start

Malacañang asked the public and candidates to continue following health protocols and election guidelines ahead of the start of the campaign for the local posts.

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar (PCOO)

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar made the statement as the local election campaign period commences on March 25.

In a statement, Andanar said the Palace is confident that the public will remain vigilant during this period but reminded everyone to adhere to rules and regulations strictly.

"We remain confident that people will continue to be vigilant as the local election campaign period begins," he said.

"We, therefore, ask everyone-- from the candidates to the general public-- to strictly comply with health and safety protocols and the guidelines set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the conduct of their political activities, including campaign rallies and in-person campaigning," he added.

Meanwhile, Andanar ensured that the government's vaccination against Covid-19 would continue amid the election season.

"This occasion is likewise a good reminder that there will be no slowing down of our Covid-19 vaccination drive," he said.

"We remain on track with our goal of having 90 million fully-vaccinated Filipinos before the end of June 2022," he added.

As of March 14, a total of 64,660,228 individuals in the country have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

The government's original target is fully vaccinating 77 million adults by the end of the first quarter of the year.
