Over 400 Ukraine-based Filipinos now out of danger--DFA

More than 400 Filipinos have been taken out of war-torn Ukraine, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

A total of 405 Filipinos had been assisted by the department as of Wednesday afternoon, March 23.

Of this, 342 nationals were already repatriated to the country while 63 Filipinos have been evacuated and are now awaiting repatriation in various safe borders near Ukraine.

Among the latest batch of repatriates were the 12 seafarers who arrived in the Philippines on March 22.

They are the crew members of MV Filia Joy and MV Filia Glory. They arrived in Clark, Pampanga.

According to the DFA, the group was successfully evacuated from their ships through the help of the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Chisinau, Moldova in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Budapest.

A Filipina and her Ukrainian husband also arrived in the country on March 19. They came from Odessa and were among those who crossed the Moldovan border assisted by the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Chisinau.

Members of the Philippine Embassy in Budapest provided support in Bucharest, Romania for their travel to Manila, the DFA said.

A group of 19 Filipino seafarers also returned home on March 16. They are the crew members of ship Chariana L.

The DFA said they were assisted by the Philippine Embassies in Warsaw and Budapest, the Honorary Consulate General in Kyiv, and the Honorary Consulate in Chisinau, Moldova.
