Baguio, Abra candidates, supporters seal joint pledge to peaceful elections

BAGUIO CITY – Local candidates here, together with the Commission on Elections, on Wednesday joined the police in the Unity Walk and Pledge of Commitment for the honest and peaceful elections.

Local candidates and their supporters, members of the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo and leaders and members of the religious sectors, and other line agencies in Baguio City walked together to the central business area to People’s Park in a show of unity for peaceful and honest election.

In his message during the program that followed, Atty. Reyman Solbita, city election officer, reminded the candidates to follow the rules and guidelines outlined in the Comelec Resolution on the conduct of face to face campaigns.

Solbita also advised their respective supporters to still maintain the health and safety protocols, knowing full well there is still the threat of the Covid-19.

Col. Glenn Lonogan, city director of the Baguio City Police Office, said the city is known for being peaceful during elections due to the cooperation of each candidate and their supporters.

In Abra, religious leaders, Abra Peace Convenor’s Group, Comelec, political aspirants for provincial and municipal posts and other sectoral representatives, walked from Abra Sports Complex towards Abra Provincial Police Office at Camp Colonel Juan Villamor, Bangued, Abra for the same goal last Tuesday.

The walk was followed by a program highlighted by an interfaith rally, peace covenant signing or the signing of the Integrity Pledge, lighting of the Unity Candles, and expression of Voters Pledge.

The activity was concluded with the release of doves and white balloons to symbolize the multi-sectoral desires and aspirations for the safe, accurate, fair or free election (SAFE) 2022.

Col. Maly Cula, provincial director of Abra PPO said: "Indeed, collaboration and multisector partnership bring us to the successful realization of our collective desires, all for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the electoral process in our beloved province.”
