Police seize 700 assorted firearms, explosives in Central Luzon checkpoints


CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga -- The Central Luzon police’s strict implementation of gun ban in the whole region in line with the forthcoming national and local elections has resulted into confiscation of about 700 firearms and explosives.

The police have also arrested 171 individuals in the course of implementing the checkpoints region wide.

PRO3 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Matthew P. Baccay said that from Jan. 9, 2022 to date, a total of 164 various firearms and 494 deadly weapons including explosives were confiscated.

Brigadier General Baccay encouraged the public to cooperate with authorities at checkpoints, and assured that the police personnel will observe policies and procedures and respect their basic rights.

Motorists passing through a checkpoint are advised to slow down, dim their headlights and turn on their cabin lights and answer promptly if asked by police authorities.

“I have also reminded our personnel to be courteous to motorists and to adhere to general guidelines prescribed in our Revised Police Operational Procedures,” he further stated.

The carrying of firearms, other deadly weapons and explosives as well as their transportation are strictly prohibited from the start of the election period on Jan. 9, 2022 until June 8, 2022.
