Mamba offers reward for information on illegal drugs found in Cagayan waters
CAGAYAN -- Governor Manuel Mamba of this province has promised to reward anyone who can provide information on illegal drugs that may be found or fished out in the waters off Cagayan.
The governor made the offer following the recovery of plastic packs of suspected cocaine valued at P30 million by fishermen off Cagayan waters.
The Cagayan Provincial Information Office said that the governor will give a reward of P200,000 to those who would provide information, including those fishermen from Aparri who earlier recovered the illegal drugs.
Three of the packages containing illegal drugs were found by two fishermen floating at sea between the towns of Ballesteros and Abulug in Cagayan Monday.
The authorities later launched a follow-up retrieval operation, leading to the recovery of two more bricks of suspected cocaine off the coast of Barangay Fuga in Aparri town at about 10: 15 a.m. the following day.
Like the other three recovered packages, the two cocaine bricks were wrapped with transparent and brown tapes bearing the Columbian Foot Team logo.
Director III Joel Plaza, regional director of Philippine Enforcement Agency (PDEA 2), said operations were still ongoing to locate and recover the possible remaining items at the sea.
“We are urging the community to report to authorities similar containers containing cocaine that might be washed ashore or found floating in the seawaters not only in Cagayan but Regionwide as well,” Plaza said in a statement.
