Zamboanga City bans entry of live birds, chickens in wake of reported bird flu cases

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has ordered a temporary ban on entries of all live bird species in the city following the reported bird flu cases in some Luzon provinces.

The ban covers ready-to-lay pullets, ducks, quail, embryonated or “balut”, manure and other products and by-products from Luzon and other bird-flu affected areas.

Climaco signed Executive Order 720 on March 16, 2022 mandating the temporary ban on the entry of live birds in the city from March 16 to April 15, 2022.

Under the EO, the public is enjoined to report mortality and unusual disease afflicting poultry birds, ducks, and pet birds to the Veterinary Services field offices.

People are further instructed not to handle and consume poultry, ducks, and quails which died from unknown causes.

Residents are also requested to avoid contact with resident, wild, and migratory birds in their areas.

The mayor has directed concerned government personnel to implement strict border control in all entry points of the city in line with the executive order.
