Robredo's 'PasigLaban' rally gets singer Ariana Grande's attention

International singing sensation Ariana Grande, who has over 300 million followers on Instagram, posted about Vice President Leni Robredo’s “Pasiglaban” campaign rally on her Instagram story after some 90,000 kakampinks there sang her hit song “Break Free”.

Kakampinks were elated on Monday, March 21, midnight as Grande posted on her Instagram story two clips of Robredo’s supporters singing “Break Free” during the Pasig Laban Para Sa Tropa People’s Rally along Emerald Ave. in Pasig City.

The first clip was an aerial shot of the mammoth crowd that donned pink shirts and waved pink flags as they sang the chorus.

“I could not believe this was real (teary-eyed emojis) I love you more than words,” Grande captioned the story.

The second clip was of the people on the ground singing along as they waved their light sticks, balloons, and flags. The singer captioned this with three teary-eyed emojis.

It is not clear how Grande got wind of the use of her song in a political rally. This was also not the first time the song was sang in Robredo’s sorties.

Celebrities and artists headlined the entertainers o performed for free during the rally.

Pop band Ben & Ben closed the show with four of their hit songs—“Araw-araw,” “Sabel,” “Pagtingin,” and “Kapangyarihan”. Earlier, young star Donny Pangilinan sang “Ikaw Lang Ang Aking Mahal,” Jolina Magdangal sang “Anak ng Pasig” with Rivermaya who also performed “Liwanag Sa Dilim. Ebe Dancel serenaded with “Wag Ka Nang Umiyak” and “Bawat Daan.”

The band Itchyworms also changed the lyrics of its hit song “Akin Ka Na Lang” to “Leni Ka Na Lang.”

Celebrities Julia Barretto, Melai Cantiveros, and Robi Domingo hosted the show.

On Twitter, the hashtag #PasigLaban trended the whole day of Sunday, March 20, and is still the number one trending topic today, Monday, March 21, with over 150,000 tweets. Second is #KulayRosasAngBukas with more than 25,000 tweets.

On Sunday, #PasigLaban also trended on the top spot of Twitter’s worldwide trending list.
