Party-list turns to San Juan LGU to help beleaguered tricycle drivers

A party-list seeking a House seat in the upcoming 19th Congress has turned to a local government unit (LGU) partner in its bid to soften the blow of skyrocketing fuel prices on public utility vehicles (PUVs), specifically tricycle drivers.

Angat Pinoy Party-list San Juan City Chapter President Richie Peralta recently made a courtesy call to San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, and brought with him leaders of local Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Associations (TODAs).

"Angat Pinoy is collaborating with the San Juan City local government unit to extend help and assistance to members of TODA to help alleviate their plight due to the rising fuel cost," read a statement on the meeting. A dialogue between the mayor and stakeholders also took place.

Among the party-list's core missions is to help uplift the welfare of the Filipino masses, which include workers in the PUV sector.

Pump prices of gasoline have shot up to around P75 per liter following last week's big-time price hike. This figure is some P20 higher compared to gasoline prices at the start of the year.

The Philippine government has bared that it intends to use fuel subsidy as a way to cushion the impact of the pump price hikes. However, there have been worries on whether or not tricycle drivers would get covered by the much-needed subsidy.

Angat Pinoy Party-list San Juan City Director Kristopher Peralta also took part in the courtesy call to Mayor Zamora.
