'Padyak' to open tourism activities in Ilagan City

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela – This city goes livelier this Saturday as hundreds of bikers are expected to join the ‘Padyak Galak Para sa Turismo,’ which will kick off the keenly-awaited opening of the Tourism Event here this month.

Paul Bacungan, information officer here, stressed that the City Government of Ilagan initiated the move to hold cycling events through the City Tourism Office in line with the reopening of tourism.

The City of Ilagan boasts of excellent sceneries that lure both local and foreign visitors, but the city's tourism suffered considerably because of Covid-19 pandemic.

The Padyak Galak for Tourism (Fun Bike Rides) is free of registration and will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

The program will start in the morning at Mammangi Park (Ilagan Promenade) beside DBP.

The first 100 participants to arrive on March 26 will be given free t-shirts, although a lot more surprises would be up for grabs in the event that will be open to all bikers, male and female, within and outside the city, provided they are fully vaccinated.

The type of bike is not limited to mountain bike and road bike and bikers must wear proper attire/gears for the activity.

The participants must accomplish a registration form and waiver to be submitted to the city tourism office.

Among the major tourist attractions in the City of Ilagan are Sanctuary in Barangay Santa Victoria, the Ilagan Japanese Tunnel and the Butaka Shrine.

The Sanctuary is where you can also find the Santa Victoria Caves as well as the Pinzal Falls.

The Ilagan Japanese Tunnel is a war tunnel that was part of a military base built by the Japanese to serve as headquarters for their soldiers during World War II.

It is found in Santo Tomas Village and is one of the few remaining tunnels in the province.

Butaka shrine is where the biggest “butaka” can be found and it was awarded by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest arm chair in the world. It measures 11.6 feet high, 20.8 feet long, and 9.8 feet wide

“Butaka” means a chair with a long arm rest or we know it as the rocking chair of our grandparents.
