Lightning downs one, injures another in Claveria

CLAVERIA, Cagayan – A man who was holding a cellular phone died after being struck by lightning, while his companion was injured at Brgy. Centro 1 late Sunday afternoon here.

Police Senior Master Sergeant (PSMS) Richie Roger Q. Hernandez, investigator-on-case, identified the fatality as Albert Ulnagan alyas Henry, 21, while the injured was Romnick Yadao, 16. Both are residents of Brgy. Pata East, Claveria, Cagayan.

The incident happened at 3:20 p.m. that day.

Responding RESCUE 41 revealed that the victims were sitting along the seashore at Villa Aurora Resort when lightning struck and hit a pine tree near them. The two were electrocuted which proved fatal to Ulnagan who was holding a cellular phone.

The Claveria Police Station said the team of RESCUE 41 conducted CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) to revive Ulnagan before he and the other victim were rushed to the Northern Cagayan District Hospital, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan for immediate medical attention.

Unfortunately, Ulnagan was declared dead on arrival, while Yadao sustained minor injuries and he is now undergoing medication at the said hospital.
