Vicki Belo endorses senatorial aspirant Dr. Minquita Padilla

Opthalmologist, health advocate and Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines founder and president until she resigned after filing her candidacy,  Dr. Dominga "Minguita" Padilla got a boost in her senatorial campaign when she received endorsements from celebrity doctor Vicki Belo and Bishop Emeritus of Novaliches, Rev. Teodoro Bacani, Jr. 


On her Instagram, Dr. Belo, more known as Dr. Vicki or Dr. Belo, posted a photo of her and Dr. Minguita with the message, "In times like these we need a doctor in the senate. This is Minguita Padilla. I've known her for 30 plus years. And I can vouch for her integrity, intelligence, and patriotism."

 
Meanwhile, in an interview with Radyo Veritas, Bishop Bacani, speaking to Dr. Minguita, enumerated the reasons why people should vote for her. He said, "You have the mind, you have the heart, and I think, (you have) the determination to do good for our country. You have served people up to now." 


Since 1994, Dr. Minguita has been instrumental in helping thousands of indigent patients gain sight by procuring, processing and distributing corneas and eye tissues as Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines Founder and President.

She facilitated the donation of the corneas of deceased actors Jay Ilagan, Miko Sotto and AJ Perez to poor patients. Thanks to the donations, these patients were able to see.

 
In this time of the pandemic, Dr. Minguita raised funds for hospitals, and for medical frontliners' PPEs and supplies. She also served as resource person in several webinars and online forums in order to inform the public on the facts about Covid-19 and the importance of vaccination and how to avoid getting the virus, and she trained barangay health workers on how to conduct COVID-19 antigen testing. For these, the City of Makati bestowed to her the Exemplary Makatizen Makahero Award last December 2021.

 
Dr. Minguita's bid for the Senate also received the nod from Miko's mother, radio host Ali Sotto, and AJ's parents, Gerry and Marivic Perez. Dr. Minguita's achievements were featured in Ogie Diaz's widely followed Showbiz Update YouTube channel.
