Sotto to voters: 'Trust me, I won't let you down'

Vice presidential candidate and Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Sunday vouched for his decades-long experience in public service as he urged voters to choose him during the ending of the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) first vice presidential debates.

Sotto, who is running in tandem with Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, said that as a senator for more than 20 years, he is already “tired of making laws that are not implemented properly.”

“Katapatan, Kakayahan, Katapangan. Yan po ang dala-dala ko sa pagharap sa inyo. Alam po namin ang mga problema ng bansa, alam din po namin ang pinagdadaanan ng mga kababayan natin lalo na ng mga mahihirap. Alam din po namin ang solusyon (honesty, ability, and courage. That’s what I am bringing as I face all of you. We know the problem of this nation, we also know what our people are going through, especailly the poor. We also know the solution),” Sotto stresed.

“24 years po akong senador (I’ve been a senator for 24 years).I am tired of making laws that are not implemented properly kaya kami naririto humaharap (That’s why we are here),” he said.

Given his experience in public service, Sotto said he will not use the Office of the Vice President (OVP) to practice being the second highest official of the land.

“Yun pong opisina ng pagka-Pangalawang Pangulo ay hindi ko po pagpapraktisan, hindi po ako mangangapa. Ang karanasan ko po na 30 taon sa public service ay sapat na. Kilala nyo naman po ako at ang aking buong pamilya (I will not use the office of the vice president to practice. My 30 years of experience in public service is sufficient already. You know me and my whole family), nationwide,” he said.

“Dati niyo na akong binoboto, pinagtitiwalaan. Ibalik ang tiwala sa gobyerno. Pagtiwalaan nyo po ako, hindi kayo mapapahiya (You have voted for me voted, and trusted. Let’s restore trust in government. Trust me. I won’t let you down),” Sotto reiterated.
