BACOLOD CITY - A wife killed her alleged husband to defend herself and their children from his abuses in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Murcia, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, March 1.
Police identified the victim as Florencio Dela Cruz, 69.

Capt. Jerald Muya, Murcia town police chief, said the suspect Luzmary, 58, was preparing some wood for charcoal making when she heard her son shouting for help at home.
Luzmary returned to their house and saw her husband allegedly hitting her son with a wood.
Muya said that Luzmary pacified her husband but she was reportedly pushed to the ground.
Another son tried to stop the commotion but his father allegedly also hurt him and even tried to get a bolo, according to Muya.
Luzmary was able to attack her husband using her own bolo to prevent him from further hurting their 24-year-old son, who was reportedly mentally ill, Muya said.
Out of anger, Luzmary hacked her husband multiple times that caused his death, Muya said.
Luzmary, along with his two sons, went to the house of the village chief and narrated what happened. She was turned over to the police, along with the weapon used in the incident.
Muya said the victim, according to his wife, would usually hurt her and their children whether he was drunk or not.
Authorities are waiting for the decision of the couple’s children if they are willing to file parricide charges against their mother, who is now under police custody.
Muya said the suspect will be released after the 36-hour reglementary detention if no charges will be filed within that period.
