Senatorial bet Monsour Del Rosario bewails death of promising Taekwondo athlete in hit-and-run case
Senatorial candidate Monsour Del Rosario on Wednesday bewailed the death of a promising Taekwondo athlete who was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Quezon City.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mark Joseph Crisostomo, 19 years old, student, and Taekwondo player. My family and I sympathize with the Crisostomo family,” Del Rosario said in a statement.
“Due to a tragic accident that was only aggravated by the escape and negligence of the driver of the car that collided with him while he was cycling in Quezon City, another dream of a young man to serve his country through sports was shattered,” added the senatorial bet who is part of the Senate slate of Partido Reporma standard bearer Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Senate President Vicente Sotto III’s tandem.
Del Rosario said he hopes that a thorough police investigation would be able to identify and catch the driver who collided with Mark Joseph.
“I also urge this person to come forward and face his/her responsibility toward our nation’s laws and to the orphaned family of the young victim,” he stressed.
“To our young people, may you take great care of yourselves and be alert and aware of your surroundings, especially when you are on the road,” added the former Taekwondo athlete.
Likewise, the former Makati representative said he hopes that the incident would again serve as a reminder to drivers and motorists to respect the rights of bicycle riders.
“May this incident serve as a lesson to all of us. This is not the first time the rights of bicycle riders on the road have been disregarded,” he pointed out.
“Let us be more careful and responsible in our driving, and respect the rights of bicycle riders and other motorists on the road,” he emphasized.
Del Rosario was first known in the Philippine martial arts scene as a member of the Philippine National Taekwondo Team from 1982 to 1989 and was named an eight-time National Lightweight Champion. He also competed in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Should he win in the Senate, Del Rosario said he would pursue the welfare of the country's athletes, including a provision of a competent pension for them.
