Vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has categorically told fellow local executives during the League of Municipalities of the Philippines 2022 general assembly that this would be her final term as mayor.

"Let me continue on with my speech in sharing with you my experiences as mayor; this will be my last term as mayor and when I step down, as I mentioned earlier, I will leave a legacy of a debt-free Davao City," Duterte-Carpio said during the event held on Tuesday night, March 1 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
Her remarks can be interpreted in two ways: first, that she is very confident of her victory in the vice presidential race this coming May and subsequent tenure of six years as the second-highest official in the land; and second, that she plans to retire from politics altogether should she fail in her vice presidential bid.
While she can still technically run for Davao City mayor again after completing her term as vice president, rumors have been persistent that Inday Sara could run for the Palace seat in 2028.
There was actually a public clamor for her to vie for the presidency as early as this year and try to succeed her father, President Duterte, in Malacañang. But Duterte-Carpio, who is only 43 years old, ultimately decided to become former senator Bongbong Marcos's running mate.
Duterte-Carpio originally filed a certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection for a third and final term as Davao chief executive. She filed her COC for vice president via the substitution route last November.
Needless to say, the presidential daughter is proud of her achievements as Davao mayor. "It’s the fourth most competitive city in the entire country and seventh richest city in the country," she said.
She then gave the following piece of advice to the League of Municipalities general assembly attendants: "It's all about economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resilience. Kung nandyan po iyang apat na yan sa plano ninyo, hindi po kayo magkakamali sa direksyon ng inyong municipality (If those four are in your plans, then you can't go wrong with the direction of your municipality) and people will appreciate or your constituents will appreciate your governance."
Duterte-Carpio chairs the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) party.
