Orchid and ornamental plant enthusiasts become more mobile as the pandemic subsides. Thus, a plant bazaar opening to the general public may be the event that signals the reemergence of the horticulture industry from its pandemic slumber. Coincidentally, native Philippine orchids are now in blooming season bringing a variety of color and scents into gardens.

A must have orchid in every collection is the native Sanggumay Orchid (Dendrobium anosmum). This orchid is particularly gaining attention this time of year. Generously scented, its spectacular long sprays of delicate artshade flowers ranging from lilac to pink and purple, and even rare forms as dearei (white) and coerulea (violet) fills the air with its distinct scent of lingering sweet fragrance. Now on its budding season, it would be in full bloom anytime soon…just in time for this plant bazaar.

Early on, consistent importation of plants from Bangkok, Holland, Taiwan and China brought much variety of aroids such as Aglaonema, Alocasia, Anthurium, Philodendron , Monstera, and the like as well as their prized variegated their forms, have since been rigorously propagated locally and now flooded the market. Plants nurseries and growers have stocked up as they cashed in on high valuations during the height of the pandemic. This ultimately brings good news to plant collectors as prices of plants are now trending to be more affordable, thus the term "buyers' market" ensues.

In the onset of mass internet shopping for almost everything, traditional brick and mortar stores like bazaars still offer the buyers more options to select their desired plant and even negotiate for the best price. More importantly, precious personal rapport may be established between buyers and sellers onsite.

This three weekend event features at least 37 stalls, open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Philippine Orchid Society secretariat may be reached thru 09178486468 or 79573524.
