Leni, Kiko set foot on rival Isko's turf to convince voters

Presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo had a warm welcome from her supporters as she attended the “Pink Magic of Hope” celebration for Women’s Month on Wednesday, March 2, in one of her rivals hometown and stronghold, Manila.

A sea of pink-clad supporters marched to the Plaza Noli in Sampaloc, Manila for Robredo and running mate Sen. Kiko Pangilinan’s rally.

Former Manila 6th District Rep. Rosenda Ann “Sandy” Ocampo and Manila 1st District Rep. Benjamin “Atong” Asilo were the local executives who stood on stage with the Vice President, who had a good time reading the creative placards of her supporters.

“Ito mapapagalitan ako, pero kayo nagsulat niyan: ‘Ang tunay na bilis kilos ay na kay Leni’ (I’m going to be reprimanded for this, but you’re the one who wrote it: ‘The true fast action is with Leni’),” she read.

“Bilis kilos” is the campaign slogan of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who is also running for president. Manila is the home town and bailiwick of Moreno with 1.13 million votes.

She read another one: “Buti pa ang temperature may degree (The temperature is better because it has a degree).”

Former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., her closest rival, claimed to have an Oxford degree despite the Oxford Univ itself clarifying that he did not graduate and only earned a special certificate.

“Anak ng BBM Supporters for Leni (Children of BBM supporters for Leni),” she read, to which she quipped, “May assignment kayo ha (You have an assignment)!”

The Vice President had a good time reading the slogans and placards by her supporters, but she also turned serious when she talked about the remaining days of the campaign.

Although saying that this is the most fun campaign she joined in all the years she was involved in politics, Robredo acknowledged the tall order ahead, reminding her supporters not to fall to false promises.

“Hingan muna natin sila ng resibo... Tingnan natin ang track record (Let us ask for receipts... Let us look at the track record),” she said, adding that she has proven her own record in her work in the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

“Dahil hanggang di natin napapalitan yung bulok at lumang klase ng pulitika, walang pagbabago na mangyayari sa atin. At yung kapangyarihan nasa ating lahat (Because if we don’t change the rotten and old style of politics, nothing will happen to us. The power is with us),” Robredo added.

Robredo came with Pangilinan, senatorial candidates lawyers Chel Diokno and Sonny Matula, representatives of Senators Risa Hontiveros and Leila de Lima.

“Maynila, napakahalaga ng inyong boto... Sino ba ang may malinis na track record? Hanapan ng resibo. Hindi pwede ang resibo ng kasinungalingan sa YouTube (Manila, your votes are very important... Who has a clean track record? Look for true receipts. It cannot be fake receipts and lies on YouTube),” Pangilinan told the crowd who gathered in the residential and university district of Manila.

“Tayo ang may kapangyarihan na magsabi kung sino ang dapat maupo (sa May elections). Gamitin natin ang kapangyarihang ito. Puntahan natin ang mga kaibigan, kapitbahay...Mananalo tayo. Mananaig ang katotohanan (We have the power to say who should win in the May elections. Let us use this power. Let us go to our friends, neighbors... We will win. Truth will prevail),” he added.

The senator lamented that many Filipinos still believe in fake news.

Team Leni Robredo, the volunteer arm of the Robredo-Pangilinan campaign, said that some 3,000 kakampinks called for an “end to the injurious hold of patriarchy and misogyny on the rights of Filipino women.”

The Robredo-Pangilinan supporters marched from España Boulevard corner Blumentritt Road to Plaza Noli, where the main program was held.
