Diffun, Quirino tourism gets a boost with new road projects

QUIRINO -- Access to two well-known tourist sites -- the Ganano Falls and Eagles Beak - Batumbaket, in Diffun, Quirino, will soon be easy as the Department of Public Works and Highways - Quirino District Engineering Office (DPWH-QDEO) continues to implement a Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP).

Among the seven Tourism Road Infrastructure projects which will be implemented this year are the access roads to Eagle’s Beak – Batumbaket and Ganano Falls which are expected to help promote tourism value chain through agri-tourism activities.

It was learned that the tourism industry in the locality has started operating.

Both access roads leading to Eagle’s Beak-Batumbaket and Ganano Falls are allocated with a P10-million fund, District Engineer Lorna B. Asuten told Regional Director Loreta M. Malaluan.

The allocation will cover the concrete paving of existing gravel road, construction of slope protection structure and drainage system, and installation of thermoplastic pavement markings.

The construction of the access road to Ganano Falls was started in 2018 while the Eagle’s Beak-Batumbaket commenced in 2020.

Both projects are under the Multi-year Convergence Program of the DPWH with 5.75-kilometers and 6.95-kilometers target length, respectively.

The projects are expected to be completed in 2024 depending on the availability of funds from the national government.

A barangay leader of Baguio Village, Diffun, said that the previous road improvement helped them promote various tourism sites in the area.

Some are eyeing the possible fruit-picking activity which will attract many visitors and generate more income for the community. Diffun has farms devoted to dragon fruit.
