6 Iloilo schools resume face-to-face classes

ILOILO CITY — At least six schools in Iloilo province have resumed face-to-face classes since Tuesday, March 1.

The Department of Education-Division of Iloilo (DepEd-Iloilo) gave the go signal after Iloilo province was downgraded to Alert Level 2 and the risk for COVID-19 has been lowered.

Of the six schools that resumed face-to-face classes, four are public schools. These are the Cabacanan Elementary School in Alimodian town, Granada National High School-Ballesteros Campus in Carles town, Palanguia National High School in Pototan town, and Mulapula National High School in the component city of Passi.

The two private schools are Gamot Cogon Waldorf School in Zarraga town and Oxmont Memorial Academy in Calinog town.

The six schools in Iloilo are among the 80 schools in the Western Visayas region that have been allowed to resume face-to-face classes which initially started late last year for school year 2021-2022.

The expansion of face-to-face classes was put on hold by the middle of January 2022 when there was a resurgence of COVID-19 cases and the entire Western Visayas was placed under Alert Level 3 which prohibits face-to-face classes.

These schools were chosen based on the low number of COVID-19 cases in the area as well as with the consent of the parents and the local government units (LGUs).
