Taguig's weekly new Covid-19 cases up by 86%

Taguig City’s weekly tally of new Covid-19 cases has increased by 86 percent, an uptrend in the last two weeks.

From March 11 to 17, the Taguig City government recorded 276 new Covid-19 cases, or 39 new cases per day, up by 128 cases or 86 percent from 148 new Covid-19 cases tallied from March 4 to 10, or 21 new cases per day, and an increase from 87 new Covid-19 cases from Feb. 25 to March 3.

As of March 17, Taguig had 64 active Covid-19 cases including 38 new cases for the day out of 65,043 confirmed cases, 64,509 recoveries and 470 deaths. The total placed Taguig with the fourth highest total active cases among the 17 local government units in the National Capital Region.

In addition, the Taguig Safe City Task Force reported that from March 11 to 17, a total of 329 persons were apprehended for health protocol violations.

Of the total, 104 were issued citation tickets and 225 were warned. The top two most common violations were not wearing of face masks and improper wearing of face masks, and not observing social distancing protocols.

In addition, the Taguig City government has fully vaccinated 795,706 adults and 68,465 minors aged 12 to 17 years old. A total of 19,916 minors aged five to 11 have received their first dose in Taguig.

The city government also reported that 210,139 fully vaccinated individuals have been given booster shots.

Mayor Lino Cayetano said the focus of the city government is to revive the economy. One important factor, he said, is to bring back confidence among citizens that they can safely go out and for children to go back to school.
