Senate bets Gordon, Labog now included in 1Sambayan slate

Opposition coalition 1Sambayan endorsed trade unionist Elmer "Ka Bong" Labog and reelectionist Sen. Richard Gordon in its senatorial slate for the upcoming May 9 elections.

The coalition now has 10 senatorial candidates. Earlier, 1Sambayan endorsed the senatorial bids of reelectionist Senator Risa Hontiveros, detained Senator Leila de Lima, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat, lawyer Alex Lacson, labor leader Sonny Matula, and former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares.

Richard Gordon are the newest candidates who are part of the senatorial slate that 1Sambayan supports for the coming Elections 2022),” a post on 1Sambayan’s Facebook page said.

The announcement coincided with the first anniversary of the coalition’s foundation.

Labog, who is the chairperson of the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), also earlier endorsed the presidential and vice-presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan, respectively.

This despite not being officially included in the official ticket of the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem.

He thanked 1Sambayan for their “trust and support” because it will further encourage him to bring about change and good governance in the country.

For his part, Gordon, who is a guest candidate in the Robredo-Pangilinan ticket, hailed the coalition for its “effort at providing renewal and change to our country based on the selection of qualified people who will finally awaken the people from their complacency, from their apathy and passivity.”

He also congratulated 1Sambayan on its first anniversary.

Gordon has been joining most of Robredo’s people’s rallies in the provinces that have been drawing thousands of her supporters.
