Solon pleads with MMDA, Makati gov't to exempt medical workers from vehicle coding
Anakalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor has asked the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Makati City government to exempt medical workers from vehicular number coding.

“(This is) to allow them to quickly go to their workplaces, go home to rest after their duty or do their job especially in case of emergencies,” Defensor said in a press statement on Friday, March 18.
Defensor urged the MMDA and the Makati government on March 18, and expressed confidence that the two bodies would comply with his request.
Makati, which utilizes a different traffic reduction program from the MMDA, relaunched on March 16 their own number coding scheme which is observed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. but is not observed on holidays.
The MMDA’s coding scheme takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays though they have said that they are considering imposing it from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“Those on daytime duty in hospitals, dialysis centers, laboratories, and other health care facilities should be permitted to go home immediately to their families after work without waiting for past 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. in Makati and other parts of Metro Manila,” he added.
Currently, only six vehicle groups are exempt from the MMDA’s coding scheme: Public utility vehicles (PUVs); transport network vehicles; motorcycles; garbage trucks; fuel carriers; and perishable goods transport vehicles.
Meanwhile, senior citizens with a Makati “Blu-Card” are exempt from the city’s coding scheme.
“They should just be asked to present their Professional Regulation Commission license or hospital-health facility ID when flagged down by traffic enforcers,” Defensor concluded.
