Jabidah massacre recalled after 54 years; Pangilinan says 'we must never forget'
While wrongdoing of the past like what happened in the so-called Jabidah massacre cannot be undone, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan said it must be ensured that it does not happen again.

On the 54th year of the alleged killing of at least 23 Moro army recruits in Corregidor Island called as the Jabidah Massacre, Pangilinan encouraged Filipinos to recognize their sacrifices by revisiting the suffering they went through.
“The killing of our Moro brothers in the Jabidah Massacre during the Marcos regime is a tragic part of our national narrative that we must never forget," Pangilinan said in a statement.
"We revisit their sacrifices today in recognition of the suffering that they went through. We cannot undo the wrongdoing of the past, but we have the duty to ensure that this does not happen again," he added.
The lawmaker, who is running for vice president in the upcoming elections, lamented that decades later, people are still crying out for justice.
With this, he encouraged the nation to elect leaders who value the life and rights of humankind.
"Habang hindi natin mapipilit ang paghingi ng kapatawaran mula sa mga duguan ang kamay, nasa atin ang pagsisiguro na ang mga taong ilalagay sa posisyon ay may pinakamataas na pagpapahalaga sa buhay at karapatan ng ating mga kababayan, anuman ang relihiyon, paniniwala, o lahi (While we can't force apologies to be given from the bloodied hands, it's up to us to ensure that we elect people who value the life and right of our fellowmen regardless of their religion and beliefs, or race)," Pangilinan said.
"Hindi kailanman dapat maging polisiya ng pamahalaan ang mass murder, karahasan o digmaan (Mass murder, violence or war, must never be the policy of the government)," he added.
