TXT’s Huening Kai tests positive for Covid-19; Korea posts record 400,000 new daily cases


K-pop boy band TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) member Huening Kai tested positive for Covid-19, the second member of the group to catch the disease.

“We would like to provide you with some information regarding the health of TOMORROW X TOGETHER member Huening Kai,” said Big Hit Music, TXT’s agency, on March 15.

It announced that “Huening Kai presented symptoms of a cold and took the PCR test on Monday 14th, and was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Tuesday the 15th,” it said.

“Huening Kai is currently not presenting any extraordinary symptoms other than a sore throat, and is undergoing treatment at home while under quarantine. All members have been isolated since taking rapid antigen tests on Thursday the 10th. Yeonjun, Beomgyu and Taehyun will closely monitor their health while taking special care of their personal hygiene,” Big Hit Music added.

Huening Kai tested positive for Covid-19 three days after TXT member Soobin was diagnosed with the disease on March 12. They need to be isolated for seven days as required by health authorities.

Korean stars who tested positive for Covid-19 on March 14 were EXO’s Kai, Brave Girls’ Yujeong and Eunji, Pentagon’s Yeo One and Wooseok, Oh My Girl’s Arin, boy band Kingdom’s Arthur and Mujin, and NMIXX’s Sullyoon.

Including Huening Kai, there are at least 219 Korean celebrities who have tested positive for Covid-19 since Jan. 19.

Due to the highly contagious Omicron variant, South Korea has seen record daily new cases. On March 16, it recorded 400,741 new cases, the highest daily tally since the pandemic started in 2020.

South Korea’s total confirmed cases stood at 7.62 million or 14.7 percent of its 2020 population of 51.84 million.
