PH to have partly cloudy skies, isolated rains due to easterlies, localized thunderstorms

The country will experience warm weather but with a chance of sudden rains in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, March 15.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, and localized thunderstorms.

Based on its extended weather outlook for key areas from March 16 to 19, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 33-34 degrees Celsius (℃) in Metro Manila, 33-34℃ in Tuguegarao City, 23-24℃ in Baguio City, 29-31℃ in Tagaytay City, 32-33℃ in Puerto Princesa City, 32-33℃ in Metro Cebu, 33-34℃ in Metro Davao, and 33-34℃ in Zamboanga City.

PAGASA, however, advised the public to stay vigilant as severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides.

The Philippines may have "zero or one" tropical cyclone this month, said the PAGASA, citing the monthly average tropical cyclone frequency inside the country's area of responsibility between 1948 and 2020.

Based on the tropical cyclone's historical tracks, PAGASA said tropical cyclones that form in March may enter the PAR but recurve back to the Pacific Ocean.

Other cyclones that form over the Western Pacific may enter the PAR and make landfall in Central Philippines before dissipating in the South China Sea.

Even with a slim chance of tropical cyclone formation this month, PAGASA said Visayas and Mindanao may still receive "above normal" rainfall while Luzon may have "near-normal" rainfall except for the northwestern portion where "below normal" rainfall conditions are expected.
