Parlade's call for revolutionary government 'better left ignored' — Palace

Malacañang on Tuesday, March 15, disregarded the call of retired general and former anti-insurgency task force spokesperson Antonio Parlade Jr. for a revolutionary government.

"As Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana directed the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the retired general’s call is better left ignored," Presidential Communications secretary and acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar said in a statement.

Andanar, meanwhile, recognized that Parlade's call is "part of his guaranteed freedom of speech and expression."

This came after Parlade led a group of around 100 individuals at the People Power Monument along EDSA on Tuesday morning to rally against the alleged corruption in the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Parlade, who is the former spokesman of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), emphasized that a revolutionary government may be the only solution to address corruption issues.

During his confirmation hearing before the Commission on Appointments in 2020, Parlade said he does not believe in a revolutionary government.

"I don’t believe in a revolutionary government. We have existing mechanisms, we have a Constitution that is really robust. It really needs some reforms, there are provisions in the Constitution that are obsolete, that is what we should look at," he said.
