Comelec:73.7% ballots already printed

More than 73 percent (49.7 million) of the official ballots for the May 2022 polls have already been printed.

On Tuesday, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said 73.7 percent of the more than 67 million have already been printed as of March 15.

"Out of the 13 regions including Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) we already printed 73 percent... 73.7 percent. Almost all are already 100 percent printed except for the National Capital Region (NCR) which we started today. We have remaining ballots in Region 3 which is only 65 percent printed," he said in a press briefing at the National Printing Office (NPO) in Quezon City where the poll body conducted a walkthrough of the printing process for stakeholders.

"Acording to our procedure, even if it is already printed it will pass through verification process...up to the ballot exit group," added Casquejo, head of the Printing Committee.

In the verification process, he said, out of the 70 percent, only 55 percent were verified.

"There's still around 20 plus percent to be verified," said Casquejo.

As for the manual ballots that will be used for the local absentee voting and also for overseas voting, he said, its already 100 percent complete.

"We don't have a problem anymore for the manual ballots and also for the 63 barangays in North Cotabato in BARMM because they will only vote for national positions," said Casquejo.

Ballot printing started Jan. 20 with the manual ballots for LAV, followed by the manual ballots for overseas voting, and the automated election system ballot for the BARMM.

The Comelec earlier said it is targeting to finish the printing of all official ballots on April 21.
