P15M worth of marijuana burned under ‘Oplan Maritess’


TABUK CITY, Kalinga-- Joint operatives of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCOR) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) raided eight marijuana plantation Brgy. Bugnay in Tinglayan, Kalinga on Friday, resulting in to the discovery and destruction of P15 million worth of marijuana plants on Friday.

BGen. Ronald Oliver Lee, regional director of PROCOR, who led the operation dubbed "Oplan Maritess," said the operatives uprooted and burned right away a total of 75,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants (FGMJP) from eight marijuana plantation sites in an estimated land area of 7,150 square meters.

However, no cultivators were apprehended during the operation, and authorities are now conducting investigation to determine the identity of the possible cultivators.

The operation followed the success of "Oplan Herodotus 2" that resulted in the discovery and destruction of more than half-billion worth of marijuana plants and products to weeks ago.
