Man, nephew die, daughter injured in Negros road mishap

BACOLOD CITY - Two persons died while another was wounded after the car they were riding hit a truck at Purok Malipayon, Brgy. Atipuluan, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, March 12.

Killed in the accident were Ralph Estrevillo of Barangay Taculing here, and his 11-year-old nephew, whose name was withheld. Estrevillo’s 13-year-old daughter, whose name was also withheld, was wounded.

PSMS Jeffrey Montinola, traffic investigator of Bago City Police Station, said the victims were riding a sedan driven by Estrevillo on their way home from La Carlota City, when he reportedly hit the left side of a prime mover truck while approaching a curve part of the road.

The impact left Estrevillo stuck on the driver’s seat, while his nephew and daughter were rescued immediately, according to Montinola.

It took about an hour for the rescuers to remove Estrevillo from the car, the traffic investigator added.

Montinola said that Estrevillo was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while his nephew passed away later that night. Estrevillo’s daughter suffered minor injuries, he added.

Montinola said they are waiting for the decision of the victim’s family after the scheduled meeting with the 55-year-old truck driver and his employer on Monday.
