Jimuel Pacquiao wins first amateur bout on US soil

Emmanuel "Jimuel" Pacquiao Jr., the eldest son of Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, used aggressive combinations and powerful jabs to score a decision win over Mexican-American foe Andres Rosales and win his first sanctioned amateur bout on US soil Friday, March 12 there (Saturday in Manila) at the House of Boxing Gym in San Diego, California.

Jimuel utilized his jabs enough to hurt Rosales, especially in the third and last round, where both boxers seemingly gassed out from trading punches.

After a clinch in the third, the 21-year-old Pacquiao unloaded a solid right hook followed by a properly-timed combination to exhaust Rosales once and for all.

No knockdowns nor scores were called but the announcer declared Jimuel, from the red corner, as the winner.

Pacquiao Jr. resorted to counterpunching in the second, landing effective hooks to turn back Rosales.

Jimuel also connected a solid left uppercut, which actually landed on the left side of Rosales' protective gear, which made the sizeable crowd cheer for the red corner.

Early in the first round, Jimuel, who fought a couple of unsanctioned amateur bouts in the Philippines, threw powerful jabs which made Rosales work from the inside.

Jimuel continued the aggression and charged in with a combination followed by a last-second right hook moving forward the second round.

In a social media post the older Pacquiao, who is busy with his Presidential campaign in the Philippines, lauded his eldest for a job well done.

"Congratulations to my son Jimuel Pacquiao on fighting and winning his first U.S. amateur fight at junior welterweight! I’m so proud of you," wrote Manny, the only eight-division world boxing champion, with the hashtag #TeamPacquiao.

Jimuel reportedly got his boxing license in Dec. after deciding to stay in the US to train. Jimuel is under the watch of trainer Marvin Somodio at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California while MP Promotions chief Sean Gibbons also supported him on the sideline.
