Report political bets violating campaign rules, DILG tells barangay officials

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Angeles City Director Martin Porres B. Moral ordered barangay officials to report local political candidates violating the guidelines of the Commission on Election (Comelec) for the May 9 polls.

He also gave strict instructions to the barangay officials to monitor the activities of the local candidates vying for various posts throughout the campaign period in the recent the City Joint Security Control Center (CJSCC) meeting at the Angeles City Police Conference Hall.

“The DILG-Angeles City, together with the COMELEC Campaign Committee (CCC) of Angeles City, will strictly monitor the compliance of all the local candidates to the COMELEC guidelines,” Moral said.

“All Punong Barangays (PBs) are enjoined to cause the submission of reports 72 hours after a campaign activity in their respective area of responsibilities,” he added.

The members of the CJSCC, together with the PBs, also discussed the local peace and order situation; updates on national and local elections; Comelec Resolution No. 10732 regarding Guidelines for the Conduct of In-Person Campaign, Rallies, Caucuses, Meetings, and Conventions, Motorcades and Caravans, and Miting De Avance under the New Normal in Connection with the 09 May 2022 National and Local Elections; and, duties and responsibilities of barangay officials in monitoring campaign activities.

Under the Comelec Resolution 10732, any person who shall violate the election guidelines in conducting campaign activities shall be punished with imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than six years and shall not be subject to probation.

In addition, the guilty party shall be sentenced to suffer disqualification to hold public office and deprivation of the right of suffrage with the other punishments indicated in the resolution. (Chito A. Chavez)
