The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said that the total number of repatriated Filipinos from conflict-torn Ukraine had reached 225 after the latest batch of repatriates arrived on Saturday, March 12.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola told ABS-CBN's TeleRadyo on Sunday, March 13, that some 52 individuals arrived from Ukraine, which is now under attack by Russian invaders.
There are still about 98 Filipinos outside of Ukraine who are awaiting repatriation while "a little over a hundred" chose to stay in the country because of work or marriage to locals, the official added.
Arriola also reported that some Filipino seafarers are still stranded in the eastern European country because of the conflict.
“Nahihirapan lang talaga silang maka-evacuate dahil malakas iyong putukan kung saan sila nandoon (They are having a hard time evacuating because of the intense fighting where they are located),” she said.
While the fighting has not reached the capital city of Kyiv, the DFA official appealed to Filipinos there to avail of the repatriation services offered by the Philippine government.

“We are really appealing to them na sana lumikas na sila habang hindi pa kailangan talagang humingi ng (to leave while it is not yet needed to ask for a) humanitarian corridor,” Arriola added.
However, she promised that Philippine officials would wait for more Filipinos who wanted to be evacuated from Ukraine.
There were about 342 Filipinos in Ukraine when the fighting started. Around 2.6 million, mostly women and children, have been evacuated from different Ukrainian cities as fighting intensified there three weeks ago because of Russia's invasion.
Ukrainian men stayed as they took up arms against Russian soldiers.
The Philippines has joined a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution that condemned Russia's actions and called for respect for Ukraine's sovereignty.
