Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said on Sunday, March 13 that conducting political rallies or campaign-related events are not allowed within the premises of the Pasig City hall.
Sotto, in a Twitter post, said: "Pasig City Hall premises, including quadrangle, are NOT open for any political rally. Kahit mayor ang mag-apply, 'di bibigyan ng permit." (The Pasig City hall premises, including quadrangle, are NOT open for any political rally. Even if a mayor applies, a permit will not be given.)
Candidates vying for positions in the national government in the May elections have been visiting and holding campaign rallies in various cities and provinces since the beginning of the national campaign period on Feb. 8.
"We told those applying for a permit, try the plazas or open streets. They are the biggest spaces available, and open to all candidates," Sotto added in his post.
During the flag raising ceremony on Feb. 28, the mayor said that all candidates are welcome to hold campaign-related activities in the city, provided they obtain proper permits.
He said these permits are readily approved and the fees are waived by the City Administrator's Office.
Sotto also reminded the visiting parties and the public that posting campaign paraphernalia in public spaces within the city is not allowed and these materials will be taken down.
