Charly Suarez once again proved that he became an Olympian for a reason.

The 2016 Rio Olympic boxer stunned Tomjune Mangubat with power punches and combinations in the decisive 12th round to bag the World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight title at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque Saturday, March 12.
Suarez displayed his veteran experience and technical boxing style early in the match but veered away from it in the championship rounds.
The former national team member connected a lethal left uppercut followed up by hefty body blows at the beginning of the last round which sent Mangubat down the canvas -- the first knockdown of the night.
Suarez, sensing fatigue from Mangubat, went on frenzy mode and punished the Bukidnon native to the ropes with hefty body shots and lethal combos.
Referee Tony Pesons intervened and stopped the match after 35 seconds of the last round as Mangubat couldn't put his guards up against the aggressive Suarez.
The 11th round proved to be instrumental for Suarez as he switched his style with aggression, attacking Mangubat on the inside with strong combinations and breaking through his head defense.
Mangubat landed a couple of uppercuts and combinations in the 10th, looking to attack Suarez openly with his lengthy arms and powerful punches.
But Suarez, showing body movement and speedy footwork, came in zooming with a late flurry and worked on the inside to hurt Mangubat before the clapper.
The 33-year-old Suarez remained unbeaten in 10 matches on top seven knockouts since kicking off his professional career in January 2019.
Mangubat, 24, for his part, saw his four-match win streak collapse and sustained a 15-3 card with 12 KOs.
