No age restrictions for tertiary students attending face-to-face classes, CHED says

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Prospero De Vera III clarified that there are no restrictions when it comes to the age of students who will be allowed to attend face-to-face classes at the tertiary level.

At a Laging Handa public briefing on Saturday, March 12, De Vera said that all college students enrolled in universities and colleges are allowed to attend in-person classes.

“Lahat ng freshman ngayon ay (All freshman are now) 18 years old and above na dahil sa (due to the) K to 12, ibig sabihin, lahat ng ating mga estudyante ay (this means that all of our students are) essentially adults,” De Vera explained.

However, De Vera clarified that while there are no age restrictions, students who intend to attend in-person classes in their respective universities and colleges should be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Lahat sila ay dapat kasama na sa (All of them are included in ) general population na nabakunahan kaya walang (that should have been vaccinated so there is no) age restriction sa ating mga estudyante na papasok (for our students who will come to school),” De Vera said.

De Vera also clarified that aside from students, only faculty members who are fully vaccinated should be allowed to hold face-to-face classes.

He noted that those students who were not yet vaccinated against Covid-19 can continue their studies through online classes and other options under Flexible Learning.

To date, De Vera said that there are 313 higher education institutions (HEIs) and over 1,000 degree programs are holding face-to-face classes at the tertiary level.
