DLSU recognizes MB photojournalist in Lasallian Scholarum Awards

The De La Salle University (DLSU) recognized Manila Bulletin photojournalist Noel Pabalate in the Lasallian Scholarum Awards (LSA).

In a virtual ceremony, DLSU gave special commendation honor to Pabalate for his story "DLSU researchers use machine learning for a deeper meaning of data from international assessments" in the Outstanding Published Feature Story on De La Salle University.

Pabalate was recognized for his outstanding media coverage of youth and education.

"I'm honored and humbled that my article was recognized by DLSU's Lasallian Scholarum Awards. I share the award to my MB Family, especially to the Lifestyle section," Pabalate told Manila Bulletin.

He shared he was inspired to write the article last July after the Department of Education called out World Bank following its report on poor learning results among Filipino students.

"I'm glad to deliver a message that the government has allies like De La Salle University in uplifting our educational system. It somehow me realize that we, Filipinos, can really find better solutions, especially in education, in order to make our country great," he added.

Three more features by MB reporters were also nominated in the same category: "DLSU student is among WAFF's 2021 Global Teen Leaders, pushes 'advocacy as lifestyle' for youth by Merlina Hernando-Malipot, "Youth org, DLSU launch partnership for civic education research" by Gabriela Baron, and "DOST: DLSU researchers working towards setting up of lab for R&D needs of semiconductor industry' by Charissa Luci-Atienza, a former MB reporter.

Meanwhile, "'Super si Ma'am at Sir!': As the pandemic reshapes education, teachers use their 'super powers' to ensure that learning will continue by Hernando-Malipot was also nominated under the Outstanding Published Feature Article on Youth and Education in a Nationally Circulated Publication category.

Given annually, LSA seeks to affirm media practitioners in their pursuit of truth and excellence, as well as their desire to engage the public in meaningful discussions and actions.
