Baguio starts face-to-face classes in 2 elementary schools

BAGUIO CITY - Elementary pupils resumed face-to-face (F2F)classes at the Gibraltar Elementary School, one of two schools granted the authority to do so after satisfying the requirements of the School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT) of the DepEd.

DepEd Baguio Schools Division Supt. Federico Martin said that, as of March 6, the following schools were up for orientations and simulations for possible return to F2F classes: Sto. Tomas National High School-Senior High School-Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL), Mil-an NHS (TVL), Happy Hollow Elem. School (ES) Spring Hills ES and Alfonso Tabora ES.

Other schools that passed the SSAT as validated by the composite team and recommended to the DepEd city and regional offices were Fairview ES, Kias ES, Baguio Central School, Baguio City National High School, Baguio City Science HS (Stand Alone), Pines City NHS, Doña Aurora H. Bueno ES, Manuel A. Roxas ES and Quezon Hill ES.

Some private schools are also currently undertaking F2F simulations also in preparation for reopening including the UCCP Baguio Educational Center.

The division's validations are continuing through ocular inspections of the public and private schools to assess their level of preparedness based on the SSAT requirements which include the presence of isolation room, health protocols, class schedules, contingency plan and a barangay resolution.

DepEd Baguio City Division has 45 elementary divided into six districtsa nd 23 secondary public schools and 95 private schools in Baguio City.

In Tabuk City,Kalinga, a total of 18 schools under the Department of Education (DepEd)– Kalinga have started holding F2F classes since March 3, 2022.

Jerry Ymson, officer in charge of the Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of Kalinga, said that there were 58 schools, which were nominated for the in-person classes, and that 18 have already started on March 3.

Ymson added that the face-to-face classes in the 18 schools cover 1,187 elementary pupils; 185 junior high school learners; and 60 senior high school students.

Additionally, prior to the expansion of face-to-face classes in Kalinga, Bonnong Elementary School and Liyang Elementary School were the first ones to start the in-person classes.

Meanwhile, there are a total of 430,924 learners under DepEd who are enrolled in the region for School Year 2021-2022. Of the figure, 85,775 students are already having their face-to-face classes as of March 3.
