Marcos camp rips Aksyon Demokratiko on P203-B excise taxes issue

Presidential bet Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.'s spokesman Vic Rodriguez has described Aksyon’s Demokrariko's statements as “reckless” and “abhorrent" as the party sounded off on the alleged P203-billion tax liabilities of the Marcoses.

“The penchant for issuing reckless statement by Aksyon Demokratiko on the pretext of knowing the factual antecedents of the matter and having in their possession document or at the very least, a supporting paper to back their claim, when there is none should be abhorred,” Rodriguez said in a Facebook post on Friday, March 11.

A statement released by Aksyon Demkratiko on March 10 detailed a letter sent by Chairman Ernest Ramel to Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) Chairman John Agbayani.

Ramel inquired if the PCGG and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) had entered an agreement regarding the case of an alleged P203-billion in unpaid estate taxes.

“The question is very simple, answerable by ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’ Did the PCGG and BIR have an agreement regarding the P203-Billion Marcos debt to the Filipino people?” Ramel said in his letter.

In the letter, Ramel even quoted Rodriguez’ own statement: “In fact, even BIR and the PCGG have arrived at an agreement for the BIR to wait for the decision on the said case before any collection enforcement activities,” said Rodriguez in a March 4 statement.

“After miserably failing to present any basis to anchor on their claim, it has become very clear that the only motivation is to further their negative and hateful campaigning against presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos without any regard for decency and responsibility,” Rodriguez said in his Friday statement.

Marcos is running for president in the May 2022 polls as one half of the UniTeam tandem. His running mate is Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
