Saso opens with 68 for joint 23rd in Honda LPGA

Yuka Saso carded a four-under-par 68 for a share of 23rd place in the opening round of the Honda LPGA Thailand at the Siam Country Club, Old Pattaya Course in Chonburi Thursday.

Carding nines of 36-32, Saso delivered six birdies against two bogeys on the front side to trail co-leaders Su Oh, Nasa Hataoka and Esther Henseleit by five strokes.

The trio sizzled with bogey-free 63s and similarly fired nine birdies to be on top of the leaderboard.

Xiyu Lin was at fourth with a bogey-free 64, while bunched at the crowded fifth with identical 65s were Brooke Henderson, Nanna Koerstz Madsen, Alison Lee, Lindsey Weaver-Wright, Celine Boutier and Jennifer Kupcho.

Saso stumbled on the par-5 opening hole with a bogey, but bounced back with a birdie on the fifth.

She struggled again with a bogey five on the sixth, before picking up her game with five birdies including the par-5 18th hole.
