Professors, professionals in PH condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Over 160 academics, researchers, and professionals across the nation condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that signaled the dramatic escalation of conflict between the two nations that began in 2014.
Professors for Peace, an informal group of academics, researchers, and professionals nationwide, issued a joint statement against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The statement noted that the “human cost of the invasion has already reached over 9000 dead, and at least one million displaced by the fighting.”
The group also noted that unless Russia’s actions are immediately stopped, the war will likely “precipitate a humanitarian disaster with millions displaced and tens of thousands killed.”
The signatories signified their support for the efforts of the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to secure and repatriate about 300 Filipino citizens and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Ukraine.
They also endorsed the DFA’s statement at the emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly held on March 2, joining a growing number of nations calling for an end to hostilities and the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The group also encourages the ongoing efforts in the UN for massive humanitarian assistance for the Ukrainian people, and the promotion of humanitarian principles and international rule of law in addressing this conflict.
“We call on our government to condemn the invasion, and to do what it can to support the people of Ukraine,” the group said.
“We stand with the growing number of citizens across the world, and most specially in Russia itself, who demand an end to this military aggression,” it added.
The number of signatories continues to grow and the statement remains open to all academics and professionals who would like to join and stand united with the Professors for Peace. Instructions for signing the statement are posted at
