San Juan launches house-to-house COVID-19 booster vax

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Tuesday, March, 1, led the launch of the city's house-to-house COVID-19 booster shot vaccination program in Barangay San Perfecto.

Zamora explained that the special vaccination was primarily intended for residents who are senior citizens and bedridden patients who are physically unable to go to the city’s main vaccination sites.

However, with the shift to Alert Level 1 that will allow 100 percent operational capacity in all business establishments and activities, more people are expected outside of their homes, which prompted the local government to open the house-to-house vaccination to all residents qualified for a booster shot.

“We are doing house-to-house booster vaccination to all our qualified residents to give them this extra protection they need during this pandemic but at the convenience of their homes,” Zamora said.

He called on other senior citizens and bedridden residents or their caregivers to get them their booster shots by simply calling their barangays to reserve their slot.

All able-bodied individuals who are at home may also avail should the vaccination team happen to be in their area.

The mayor also said that to further ease the citizens' access to the booster shots, the San Juan City Health Department will setup satellite vaccination areas by the end of the week in seven key locations in the city, including two drive thru vaccination areas in the city hall and at the Makabagong San Juan Plaza.

“Our goal is to not leave any San Juaneño behind in our vaccination drive. As long as they are physically and medically qualified to get the jab, we will give it to them,” Zamora added.

Zamora, together with other city government officials and employees, visited the tricycle terminal located at the Makabagong San Juan Plaza along N. Domingo Street to ensure that all drivers are fully vaccinated against the virus.

Alert Level 1 allows full capacity of public transport and makes safety barriers optional. However, the national government mandated that Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers must be fully vaccinated for them to be allowed to travel and operate as part of the country's efforts to minimize the number of COVID-19 infections.

According to the Department of Health (DOH) data this February 2022, San Juan City leads in Metro Manila in the vaccination coverage among its constituents aged 18 years old and above, as well as in the 5-11 years old category.

The city has also fully vaccinated over 248.57 percent of its target population (adults) and has given 48.97 percent of its 5-11 year old population their first dose.
