Nigerian killed, P13.6-M shabu seized in QC sting

A Nigerian was killed after engaging policemen in a shootout during a buy-bust operation that also yielded P13.6 million worth of shabu in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City, on Sunday, Feb. 27.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) identified the slain Nigerian as Ejiofor Smart Elendu, 36.

Joint forces of the QCPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DDEU), Special Operations Unit (DSOU), Batasan Station (PS 6), Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG), Nation Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency NCR (PDEA-NCR) conducted an entrapment operation against the suspect at Batasan-San Mateo Road, Brgy. Batasan Hills at around 11:10 p.m.

According to the CIDU report, the operation was launched after the PNP-DEG received intelligence information regarding the illegal drug trade of the suspect.

The Nigerian, along with a cohort, arrived at the location of the drug deal on board a car and received from the police poseur buyer a paper bag with P1,500,000 cash as payment for two kilos of shabu.

When he noticed that the money was fake, Elendu pulled out a gun and fired shots at the police officer. The back-up operatives fired back, killing the suspect.

The suspect's cohort managed to escape, police said.

The police team recovered from Elendu two kilograms of alleged shabu with a market value of P13,600,000, the buy-but money, a wallet with identification cards, a .45-caliber pistol, two magazines loaded with eight live ammunition, seven fired cartridges, and a cellphone.

The confiscated shabu is now under the custody of the PNP-DEG.

A follow-up operation will be launched to locate Elendu's cohort, according to the police report.
