Local politics eyed in revocation of permit to hold motorcade in Caloocan by Team Isko

The application of the team of presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso to hold a motorcade in Caloocan City was denied on Monday, Feb. 28.

In a letter, the city government said the request was denied as the "identified routes in the letter involve major thoroughfares of Metro Manila which are under the jurisdiction of the Metro Manila Development Authority ".

"Pinagbigyan kami, natanggap namin yung approval ng permit na mag-motorcade sa Caloocan, pero kahapon ng hapon binawi (We were allowed and we received the approval of the permit to motorcade in Caloocan. Then yesterday afternoon, it was revoked)," Aksyon Demokratiko campaign strategist Lito Banayo said in an interview with reporters on Tuesday, March 1.

"Tumawag kami sa MMDA. Eh 'yun pala nasabihan na nila yung MMDA ng city of administrator na binawi na yung permit dahil nagkaka-traffic daw (We called MMDA. But the city administrator had informed the MMDA that the permit had been revoked because it will cause traffic)," he said.

Banayo said the reason may be due to "local politics" since Dale "Along" Malapitan, son of incumbent Mayor Oca Malapitan, is the rival of Aksyon Demokratiko’s candidate Edgar "Egay" Erice for mayor in the city.

"So siyempre, hindi mo maaalis sa amin ang magisip na local politics ang maaaring dahilan dahil ang kandidato ng Akyson ay si Congressman Egay Erice para mayor ng Caloocan, samantalang si incumbent mayor, kaibigan kong si Oca Malapitan anak nya tumatakbo (So of course you can't stop us from thinking that local politics may be the reason behind it since Akyson's candidate is Cong. Egay Erice for mayor of Caloocan, while the incumbent mayor, my friend Oca Malapitan, it is his son who is running for mayor)," he added.

Banayo said he and Domagoso decided to not push through with the motorcade.

"Ang gusto ng iba ituloy namin based on kung hindi naman na-reject 'yung application within 48 hours eh parang pwede mong i-deem na approved, pero ayaw naming gumawa ng eksena pa (They wanted us to push through with the motorcade as the application was not rejected within 48 hours, so it is deemed approved, but we didn't want to make a scene anymore)," he said.

Domagoso, for his part, said all candidates are welcome to hold a motorcade in the city of Manila.

"Hindi ko alam eh, basta sa aming mga kandidato, sa Maynila, welcome kayo. Hindi niyo na kailangan ng permit... Hindi ko naman pagmamayari ang Maynila (I don't know with the others but all candidates are welcome in Manila. You don't need a permit anymore... I don't own Manila)," he said.

Domagoso and Aksyon Demokratiko senatorial bets Samira Gutoc, Dr. Carl Balita, and Jopet Sison instead decided to go to Malabon to continue their campaign.
