Lacson-Sotto tandem assures there would be no corruption at the proposed Department of Migrant Workers
Partido Reporma presidential candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson guarantees that no corruption and other government abuses would happen under the newly-created Department of Migrant Workers once he and running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III gain the people’s mandate following the May 9 elections
Lacson, chairman of the Senate National Defense and Security committee, said this Tuesday, March 1 following a radio interview where he was asked about his plans for overseas Filipino workers (OFW) once he emerges as the country’s 17th President.
The Lacson-Sotto tandem believes that corruption and the greed of some government officials is at the root of the problems of many Filipinos, including OFWs who are hailed as the country’s modern heroes.
That’s why the longtime public servants vow to eradicate graft and theft in all its forms to truly help Filipino workers whether inside or outside the country once they are elected as President and Vice President.
‘’That’s the overarching problem of the Philippines, corruption. That’s why the number one thing on our platform is to change the government, which has become such a big burden to the people instead of being the first to help them,’’ Lacson said
‘’Not only the national budget is abused, but even the agencies in government, where we know bribery is never absent. That’s why we put that (ending corruption) front and center in our platform, the Senate President (Sotto) and I,’’ he added.
The veteran lawmakers are making it a point to cleanse the government agencies perceived to be the most corrupt. In the recent CNN Philippines Presidential Debate last Sunday, Lacson resolutely said he would go after graft in the Bureau of Customs first.
