Bongbong still unsure about Comelec debate participation

Presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is still unsure whether or not he will join the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) presidential debate later this month.

In an ambush interview at an event Tuesday night, March 1 in Pasay City, Marcos Jr. personally answered for the first time questions on the issue of debates. Normally, it was his spokesperson lawyer Vic Rodriguez who would answer questions from reporters regarding the former senator's potential participation in debates or interviews.

"I don't know. I'm still looking at the format ," he said.

There are still 18 days left before the Comelec debate, which is scheduled on March 19.

On Monday, the poll body said it will give a general topic to all presidentiables for the sake of fairness.

This came after Marcos Jr.'s campaign manager, Benhur Abalos, wrote a letter to Comelec and asked them for information on the format of the debate as well as the issues to be discussed.

"That's basically the same as the others," Marcos Jr. said in reaction to Comelec’s move.

The presidential aspirant had skipped several presidential interviews and debates for various reasons, including the alleged bias of the host of the event. He also doesn't like attending debates that would only make presidential candidates fight each other.
