Supporters of Bong Go, Duterte back Isko Moreno

Former supporters of Senator Bong Go and President Duterte officially threw their full support to presidential aspirant Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

John Castriciones, former Agrarian Reform secretary and the founder and president of the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Coordinating Committee (MRRD-NECC), announced his group’s support to the presidential bid of Domagoso during the proclamation rally of the Aksyon Demokratiko party in Manila on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

“We manifest our strong support for the candidacy of Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso,” Castriciones announced.

He said Domagoso is the only presidential aspirant with a clear plan to improve the agricultural sector in the country.

“We ought to know that agriculture is the last frontier of our survival. Now that we are experiencing the ill effects, the onslaught of the pandemic, we should try to support agriculture, because without agriculture, we will not have food sufficiency,” Castriciones pointed out.

Mayor Dennis Tom Hernandez of Rodriguez, Rizal also expressed his full support to Domagoso following the withdrawal of Senators dela Rosa and later of Bong Go from the presidential race.

Hernandez, who is running for his second term as mayor, has been actively supporting Go and was able to gain the support for him from Southern Tagalog town in the 2019 senatorial election.

Hinahangaan ko po ang Manila. Sa totoo lang, noong nakaraang buwan ay Bong Go po kami. Pero dahil umatras si Bong Go, binigyan po kami ng laya ni Governor (Nini Ynares) kung sino po gusto naming piliin. Ikaw (Isko) po ang laya namin. Siyempre po, tayong mga magulang, iniisip natin ang future ng ating mga anak. Kaya po nakikita ko sa inyo, galing po kayo sa hirap, naiintindihan niyo po ang sentimyento ng ating mga kababayan,” Hernandez said.

(I am proud of Manila. Honestly, we supported Bong Go last month. But as he withdrew from the candidacy, Governor Nini Ynares gave us the freedom to pick our choice. You (Isko) are our freedom. Of course, as parents, we are thinking about the future of our children. That is why I am looking at you, you experienced poverty, we understand our countrymen’s sentiment),” Hernandez said.

There is no clarification if the pro-Duterte group plans to change its name given that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is the running mate of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Earlier on Tuesday, Domagoso’s campaign manager Lito Banayo said Catriciones called him up just the day before to ask if his group could join Domagoso’s proclamation rally.

Banayo said that 200 leaders under MRRD-NECC are backing Domagoso’s candidacy.

The MRRD-NECC is a big volunteer group that propelled President Rodrigo Duterte during the 2016 national elections. (Terence Ranis)
